☸ Cameron ☯ Asher ☸

I’ve never understood anything so emotional in a sport before… but the trade off of Ichiro Suzuki from my all time favorite team to my all time least favorite is something like the official resignation of the longest reigning idol in my life. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t chopped full of tears when I first saw him in a Yankees jersey. 11 and a half years doesn’t seem to be enough for what I believe to be the Mariner’s defining player of the 2000’s. I was only 7 years old when Ichiro joined our Emerald City team from across the sea, and as far back as my memories of the game go, they are accompanied with him. I remember my first M’s game, when I walked through the tunnel that opened to the great green field at Safeco Park and I saw Ichiro for the first time. It was a defining moment in my life. To know that I will never again step into that stadium and see him representing my city is a game changer for me. I will never look at my team, or the sport the same again.
